The business of the ISS is managed by the Governing Council. The Governing Council consists of the Elected Executive Committee, the Appointed Executive Committee, and the Honorary Executive Committee. Individuals may occupy roles on multiple Executive Committees but only have one vote on the Governing Council. All Executive Committee members are expected to be members in good standing of the ISS.

Elected Executive Committee
Members of this committee are elected from the ISS membership at large for three-year terms.

Members of this committee are appointed by the ISS President for a term agreed on by the President and the appointee.

Honorary Advisory Committee
The Honorary Advisory Committee consists primarily of members who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding contributions to some aspect of Shaw studies or their extraordinary support of the ISS. Members are appointed to this committee by the ISS President for limited or lifetime terms as appropriate. This committee serves as an advisory body only, and members do not have voting privileges on the Governing Council.
